Alabama is the lowest paying state for surgeons in the U.S., according to data published April 25 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

1. Alabama: $235,120 

2. Washington: $247,940 

3. New York: $249,450

4. California: $286,080

5. Missouri: $308,090

6. Massachusetts: $308,410

7. Alaska: $311,440 

8. Illinois: $319,710 

9. Michigan: $323,570

10. Tennessee: $324,550
