10 health systems recognized for bringing joy to medicine

The American Medical Association has recognized 72 health systems nationwide for their dedication to physician well-being, awarding 10 systems with a “gold level” recognition.

The distinction honors health systems that have shown a commitment to addressing the systemic causes of physician burnout in areas such as commitment, assessment, leadership, teamwork, peer support and practice-environment efficiency, according to an Oct. 4 release.

Twenty-six health systems received a “silver” recognition and 36 received a “bronze” recognition. In 2022, only 28 organizations were selected. 

The ten health systems earning the AMA’s gold recognition for physician well-being: 

  • Atrium Health (Charlotte, N.C.) 
  • ChristianaCare (Newark, Del.) 
  • Northwestern Medicine (Chicago)
  • Ochsner Health (New Orleans, La.) 
  • Sanford Health (Sioux Falls, S.D.) 
  • Southern California Permanente Medical Group (Pasadena) 
  • Stanford Medicine (Palo Alto, Calif.)
  • The Permanente Medical Group (Oakland, Calif.) 
  • UCHealth (Aurora, Colo.) 
  • UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, Texas)
