As vice president of business development for Health Inventures, Christian Ellison has formed numerous physician/hospital joint-venture partnerships and has helped the company increase business domestically and internationally.
In a 2009 interview with Becker's ASC Review on establishing an ASC, Mr. Ellison said physician-hospital joint ventures can create a competitive advantage for ASCs if structured properly and implemented for the right reasons. "It is critical that, regardless of the level of hospital ownership, ASCs should be physician-led businesses," he said. "Legal frameworks exist for this to happen in a way where the physicians still feel that they have control over their future."
Prior to joining Health Inventures, Mr. Ellison was a senior consultant to the healthcare industry with Arthur Andersen. He focused primarily on physician venture formation and acquisition, strategic business planning and operations improvement for large, hospital-owned physician practices.
Mr. Ellison also told Becker's ASC Review that a partnership between an ASC and a management company can also be financially beneficial to the ASC. "If a management company is an owner in an ASC, the financial performance of the ASC has a more significant impact on the management company than the size of their fee," he said. "Requiring a management company to put their capital at risk alongside the other investors appropriately aligns incentives among all of the stakeholders that drive value in the ASC business."
Mr. Ellison also experience as an administrative director of a large orthopedic physician group practice. He holds an MBA from George Mason University.
