WSJ: Should a Person's Financial Status Impact Their Medicare Benefits?

The Wall Street Journal recently started a discussion about whether a person's financial status should impact the Medicare benefits they receive.

According to the report, a Democratic official said President Obama and Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner (R-Ohio) have considered serious changes regarding Medicare and Social Security, including means-testing Medicare. That would mean providing different levels of benefits depending on a beneficiary's financial status.

The Wall Street Journal discussion board has received feedback from readers with varying opinions on the subject. Some believe Medicare beneficiaries should be able to opt out of the system, while others say "means testing" is a euphemism for "welfare."
