Trump nominates former Anthem lobbyist to head DOJ antitrust division: 4 insights

President Donald Trump nominated former Indianapolis-based Anthem lobbyist Makan Delrahim, JD, to head the Department of Justice’s antitrust division, Healthcare Dive reports.

1. The Department of Justice’s antitrust division is currently in the midst of the Anthem and Bloomfield, Conn.-based Ciga merger appeal case.

2. Mr. Delrahim currently serves as deputy counsel to the president’s administration

3. If appointed and confirmed, he would be the antitrust division’s assistant attorney general.

4. Anthem previously suggested if Trump appointed Mr. Delrahim, “it would have a better chance of having its acquisition of Cigna go through,” Healthcare Dive reports.
