Trump considers former Lilly USA exec Alex Azar for HHS secretary: 4 key points

Alex Azar is the latest candidate to join the ranks for the next potential HHS head, according to The Washington Post.

Here are four key points:

1. Two White House officials said Mr. Azar is President Donald Trump's top pick for the position, with one official saying Mr. Trump signed off on Mr. Azar. However, another White House official said no decision is final until the White House makes a formal announcement, according to Politico.

2. Mr. Azar spent nearly 10 years at Lilly USA, an Eli Lilly and Co. affiliate. During his career at Lilly, he spent five years as president and was charged with overseeing the company's biomedicines division.

3. During President George W. Bush's administration, Mr. Azar served as the deputy secretary for HHS.

4. The Post reports a Republican health policy expert said Mr. Azar's appointment as HHS lead is "extremely far down the road." The White House did not make an official  comment to The Post.
