Senate subcommittee approves $161.9B health & education appropriations bill: 5 notes

The Senate Labor, Health and Human Services and Education Appropriations Subcommittee approved a $161.9 billion health and education appropriations bill on June 7, according to McKnight’s.

Here are five notes:

1. More than $100 million of the approved bill will deal with the Medicare claims appeals backlog.

2. The Office of Medicare Hearing and Appeals will receive a $5 million increase under the new legislation.

3. The legislation cuts Independent Payment Advisory Board funding.

4. Rural health programs will receive $152.6 million.

5. The bill will allot $1.39 billion to Alzheimer’s research.
