Here are five things to know:
1. Various Republican leaders have voiced opposition to the bill, including Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. Rand Paul, R-Ky., MD, said the bill maintains too high a quantity of ACA’s taxes and insurance regulations, fueling his opposition to the bill.
2. The updated bill contains a provision that would give more federal funding to Alaska, Arizona and Kentucky, three states with GOP swing votes. The bill would increase federal funding to Arizona by 14 percent, Alaska by 3 percent and Kentucky by 4 percent.
3. Previous versions of the bill would have slashed federal funding to these three states. Despite the provision, Topher Spiro, a health analyst with the left-leaning Center for American Progress, said Alaska, Arizona, Kentucky and West Virginia would still obtain reduced federal funding under the revised bill, compared to the ACA.
4. The revised legislation has provisions granting states increased freedom to get rid of federal insurance regulations, including a provision allowing states to lift existing caps on out-of-pocket costs.
5. The bill has until Sept. 30 to pass with a simple majority. After that date, the bill requires 60 votes to eliminate the ACA.
