Five takeaways:
1. The highest average operating margin — 37.09 percent — was reported by ASCs in the Pennsylvania counties of Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Lycoming, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Tioga and Union. This region had 15 ASCs in fiscal year 2018.
2. The Philadelphia region’s 26 ASCs had the lowest average operating margin at 15.52 percent. The region is Pennsylvania’s smallest.
3. Margins were consistent with recent years, but there was slower growth in the number of new ASCs.
4. With 1.1 million total outpatient visits in 2018, Pennsylvania’s ASCs reported $1.4 billion in total net outpatient revenue.
5. ASCs reported an average of $1,241 in revenue per outpatient visit in 2018. ASCs’ net outpatient revenue increased 1 percent from 2017-18, hitting $1.36 billion.
