Three tips:

1. Look for ways EMR implementation can help. When adopting new technology, examine which processes can improve billing performance.

2. Correct claims in clearinghouse software. If claims are denied and billers correct them in the system, ASCs should make sure the corrected information is shown in the clearinghouse and the ASC’s host billing system.

3. Address physician collection preferences. If physicians say they prefer that payments not be collected up front due to patients canceling, ASCs should make sure to give patients financial counseling so they understand the cost of a procedure.
