Payers return to Illinois — 5 observations

The Illinois Department of Insurance released a list of payers approved to sell plans on the exchange, according to Fox 32.

Here are five observations:

1. Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health Alliance and Land of Lincoln will offer plans to individuals and businesses with one to 50 employees.

2. After taking a year off, Aetna will participate in the Illinois marketplace.

3. Because of financial losses, Land of Lincoln Health will cap customers at 70,000. The payer plans to offer 21 different health plans.

4. For 2016, various payers request to implement a double-digit rate increase for several Illinois health plans. However, it is not known if those rates were approved.

5. IlliniCare Health Plan and Time Insurance Company will not be returning to the market.
