Ohio ASCs saved Medicare $30M on cataract procedures

In many cases, Medicare can yield big savings when moving cases to ASCs, according to Ambulatory Surgery Center Association.

Here’s what you should know:

1. Medicare saved more than $30 million on cataract procedures in 2014 by shifting those cases to Ohio ASCs.

2. In Ohio, patients save $10.8 million by undergoing colonoscopies at ASCs, as opposed to other care settings.

3. Medicare also saved an additional $5.5 million when performing upper GI procedures in Ohio ASCs.
