Nearly 1M ICD-10 claims were successfully processed: 5 key notes

The Advanced Data Systems, vendor of EHR, PM, RCM and RIS software, found nearly 1 million ICD-10 claims were successfully processed the first time they were submitted, according to RevCycle Intelligence.

Here are five key notes:

1. ADS President David Barzillai expects future numbers will prove equally successful. He said, “We fully expect calendar year 2015 to end the same way for our clients as did 2014: with no less than a 99 percent success rate on their first attempt clearinghouse claims.”

2. RelayHealth Financial, an EHR vendor, successfully processed more than 13 million institutional and physician ICD-10 claims, valued at over $25 billion, since the beginning of October.

3. In August, the CMS found 87 percent of claims were accepted via ICD-10 Medicare Fee-For-Service and End-to-End Testing.

4. Despite the numbers, many healthcare providers are hesitant to believe CMS is reflecting a true account of the ICD-10 reality. Robert M. Wah, MD, former president of the American Medical Association, stated the CMS’s end-to-end testing results are “severely flawed” and the testing reflects those physician practices that were highly prepared for the ICD-10 transition.

5. In the coming weeks, providers may experience payment delays if existing reimbursement arrangements are affected by the coding transition.
