Medical Malpractice Costs Hit Lowest Level in Decade

 
The number of physicians paying medical malpractice fees has fallen to the lowest number on record, according to a report from Public Citizen.

The advocacy group looked at malpractice payment since 1991, and found 9,379 physicians made malpractice payments in 2012, a number that decreased for nine consecutive years. 

Physicians paid roughly $3.1 billion in 2012, the lowest since 1998. Medical liability insurance payments also fell to the lowest level in a decade, to 0.26 of 1 percent of healthcare costs.
