ICD-10 Will Actually Improve Healthcare Coding

ICD-9 is not efficient enough for today’s healthcare industry and has become obsolete; thus the benefits of switching to ICD-10, will outweigh the workflow disruption and cost, according to a Med City News report.

ICD-10 uses combination codes for more complex cases, such as two diagnoses or a diagnosis with an associated secondary process with an associated complication. The flexible codes allow for more detail. The new codes are also more relevant to emerging medical technologies.
