Here are five key points:
1. BCBS of Texas’ contract with HCA expires on April 30, and the two are currently engaging in negotiations on rates.
2. In a statement, BCBS of Texas said the payer will not agree to terms that would raise the rates customers pay when using HCA facilities.
3. Within the last year, nearly 100,000 BCBS of Texas customers received care at an HCA hospital.
4. In 2013, HCA and BCBS of Texas disagreed over how much the payer should reimburse HCA for medical services provided to BCBS customers.
5. HCA spokesman declined to comment, and referred all questions to Methodist Healthcare, which HCA partly owns. In a statement, Methodist Healthcare said it will continue pursuing negotiations with BCBS.
