Government payers in inpatient vs. outpatient settings — 10 statistics

Outpatient venues are taking on a growing percentage of Medicare patients, according to Anesthesia Business Consultants President and CEO Tony Mira.

ABC examined case volumes for 16 large practices in seven states over a period of five years. The practices had at least one main hospital facility each and a variety of ASCs.

The company compared the percentage of government payers in the inpatient setting to the percentage of government payers in the outpatient setting:

Inpatient: 49 percent
Outpatient: 42 percent

Inpatient: 50 percent
Outpatient: 43 percent

Inpatient: 52 percent
Outpatient: 45 percent

Inpatient: 52 percent
