GOP claims CMS official fell $178M short — 4 highlights

House Republicans are claiming Andy Slavitt, CMS acting administrator, mislead Congress when he said states returned more than $200 million for ACA marketplace funds to the federal government, according to The Hill.

Here are four highlights:

1. The House Energy and Commerce Committee report found states have only returned $21.5 million.

2. However, CMS said he was referring to funds returned from all states, including the 34 states that returned funds because they did not set up their own state-run ACA marketplaces.

3. House Republicans claim Mr. Slavitt implied he was referring to funds returned only from the 16 states that set up their own marketplaces.

4. The GOP also stated CMS never tried to correct the record after the media reported the $200 million figure.
