GOP: CHIP negotiations 'have made little progress' — 6 insights

Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., told The Hill that negotiations over the Children's Health Insurance Program are at a stalemate.

Here's what you should know.

1. Mr. Walden, the House's Energy and Commerce Committee chairman, said the Democrats have not responded to a Republican proposal which would extend funding for CHIP.

2. Mr. Walden released a statement criticizing the lack of response from the Democrats this week.

3. The committee passed a bill earlier in the month to extend funding with no Democratic support.

4. The Hill reports Democrats had issues with portions of the bill that would cut an ACA public health fund and increase Medicare premiums for people making more than $500,000 annually.

5. Mr. Walden issued an ultimatum to the Democrats, saying he'd introduce the committee's legislation to the House, when the House returns from recess next week, if progress isn't made towards an agreement.

6. Frank Pallone Jr., D-N.J., the Democrat's ranking committee member released a statement last week saying the Republicans are not negotiating with the Democrats.
