GAO: CMS, stakeholders on schedule for ICD-10 transition

The transition to ICD-10 has been delayed more than once, and fear that healthcare stakeholders will not be prepared for the Oct. 1 date persists. But, the Government Accountability Office has reported a positive outlook for the switch to the new code set, according to an iHealthBeat report.

The GAO report was requested by Senators Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). The report includes input from 28 stakeholders.

The report also assesses CMS’ level of preparation for ICD-10.

The Senators expressed their confidence that CMS is prepared to implement the new code set, according to the report.
