Here are four things to know:
1. This cut is higher than either state branch proposed in their original budgets.
2. House Health Budget Chairman Rep. Jason Brodeur, R-Sanford, said the government may repay some hospitals, including safety net hospitals, for a portion of the cuts.
3. The Agency for Health Care Administration is conversing with the federal government over the Low Income Pool program’ terms. The program would pay state hospitals as much as $1.5 billion in care provided for uninsured residents.
4. If lawmakers do not finalize the program’s terms, Ms. Flores said the state can only allot $600 million to the Low Income Pool program. She said, “What we’re trying to figure out is what are the policies that we would need to implement to make sure the hospitals can draw the full amount,” according to Tampa Bay Times.
