Florida House panel green lights healthcare transparency bill — 4 observations

The House panel OK’d a bill promising greater transparency for hospital pricing, according to Florida Politics.

Here are four observations:

1. The bill, HB 1175, sponsored by Rep. Chris Sprowls (R-Fla.), calls on facilities to post average payments and payment ranges for bundled healthcare services online.

2. The bill also calls for facilities to provide an estimate of charges within three days of a request. Failure to provide an estimate leads to a $1,000 daily fine.

3. Lastly, the bill calls on facilities to provide an itemized bill within seven days of a patient being discharged.

4. The bill now heads to the House Health and Human Services Committee.
