Officials with Ogemaw County Sheriff’s Office and the Ogemaw County Correctional Facility say they want to recover the costs associated with inmates going to the hospital by getting their insurance to foot the bill.
Apparently, when inmates need to seek immediate medical care, they are insured by Ogemaw County’s Blue Cross Blue Shield plan and the county gets those rates.
The county has now signed an agreement with Concierge, which checks to see if the inmate has insurance that can be billed first, before it’s billed to the county’s BCBS plan.
County officials explained they realized every instance won’t realize savings, because if the inmate is without insurance, the BCBS plan would still be used.
