Three things to know:
1. Dr. Banerjee is accused of referring workers’ compensation patients to a laboratory and ASC he owned for treatment. He billed health insurers for $180,000 for the tests and treatments between November 2014 and December 2016, according to the report.
2. California bans physicians from self-referring patients and Dr. Banerjee had previously signed doctor’s reports stating he did not refer patients to companies he owned. However, the judge in a preliminary hearing found sufficient evidence for him to stand trial on two counts of insurance fraud and three perjury counts.
3. Dr. Banerjee posted a $30,000 bond and maintains his medical license.
