California officials released more information about a universal healthcare bill for the state, Senate Bill 562, and what services it would cover, according to Mercury News.

A nonprofit board featuring nine members would administer the plan. This board would also create proposals on long-term care, retiree healthcare and healthcare services which worker’s compensation covers.

The legislators did not discuss the overall costs for taxpayers, which could be a major point of contention. Mercury News reports if the government does not allow the state to “funnel Medicare and Medicaid dollars into the system, it will be all but impossible to carry out.”

Sen. Ricardo Lara, D-Bell Gardens, a co-author of the bill, said universal healthcare provides more coverage and costs less. In a statement, Sen. Lara said, “We have the chance to make universal healthcare a reality now. It’s time to talk about how we get to healthcare for all the covers more and costs less.”
