Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC to end contract with Carteret Health Care — 4 things to know

After three years of negotiation attempts, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina is endings its contract with Carteret Health Care, according to WITN.

Here are four things to know:

1. Carteret Health Care will become out-of-network for Blue Cross customers seeking non-emergency care.

2. The termination of the contract is effective starting Feb. 1, 2016.

3. In the past, Blue Cross said Carteret Health Care is one of the most expensive community hospitals in North Carolina.

4. Michelle Lee, Carteret Health Care's community relations director, said the hospital is still negotiating with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of N.C.
