Minneapolis-based Children's Minnesota and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota failed to finalize a contact by the July 5 deadline, which could mean major rate increases for customers, according to Star Tribune.
Here are four highlights:
1. Starting July 5, patients with BCBS coverage may have higher out-of-network rates if they seek care at Children's Minnesota as well as the hospital's surgery center in Minnetonka, Minn.
2. Patients opting for care at Children's 12 primary care clinics, various specialty clinics and six rehab sites may no longer have in-network coverage.
3. BCBS released a statement saying the payer remains dedicated to "resolving the negotiation as it has done with every other provider in its network." The hospital also released a statement saying it is committed to resolving the issue.
4. Nearly 66,000 BCBS customers sought care at Children's within the past 12 months.
