Anthem asks judge for more time to win merger approval — 4 key notes

In Delaware’s Court of Chancery, Anthem asked Vice Chancellor Travis Laster for more time to win approval for its proposed merger with Cigna, Reuters reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Anthem is seeking a 60-day preliminary injunction that would prevent Cigna from terminating the proposed merger.

2. Mr. Laster said he would rule on the issue as soon as possible.

3. Two separate courts denied the Anthem-Cigna merger. Anthem is petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its case.

4. Mr. Laster “expressed reservations” about allowing the deal to terminate, but said Anthem had a “long shot” at winning merger approval.
