Twelve of the 24 highest charges are in New York and five are in Texas. In Texas, subsequent hospital care is charged $9,471, compared with a Medicare fee of $100, and a tendon sheath incision is charged $39,450, compared with Medicare’s $547.
However, the American Medical Association called the report’s methodology misleading because it only focuses on a handful of examples out of billions of medical bills filed annually.
