AAPC: Don’t Delay Seeking Coder Certification Until ICD-10

Coders unsure of when to seek certified professional coder credentials should not wait until after Oct. 1, according to AAPC.

Though waiting until ICD-10 takes effect may seem logical, AAPC said it could prove detrimental. A foundation of ICD-9-CM coding concepts will enhance a coder’s ability with ICD-10-CM. Also, having ICD-9 and 10 skills will make a coder more accurate and employable.
