Organizations need to be fully compliant with ICD-10 by Oct. 1, 2013, as CMS will reject any claim using ICD-9-CM codes with a date of service on or after this date.

 

Ms. Boynton’s best practices include focusing on who should be on an organization’s ICD-10 steering committee, taking advantage of available resources and the value of an impact assessment.
