The do’s and don’ts of posting prices online:
1. Do create a plan. Deciding the number of procedures and prices that will be shared is the first step in setting up a price transparency policy.
2. Do explore options. Establishing a price range or only posting prices for top procedures are two options ASCs should consider.
3. Do keep staff informed and set limits. Staff should know how and why procedure prices differ and should let patients know there are limitations on price estimates in terms of what is and isn’t included in the cost.
4. Don’t neglect it. Periodically review and update policies to ensure they prices are still accurate.
5. Don’t forget quality. Price transparency may increase competition, but quality should never be sacrificed.
