Three ways to prevent fraud:

1. Educate on coding practices and policies. CMS offers coding policies and guidelines for ASC staff that can help them avoid making mistakes.

2. Perform coding audits. Check with your medical coders to ensure they are billing correctly for procedures, supplies and implants.

3. Know what counts as fraud. Knowingly billing for services that are not completed or that are more complex than the procedures actually performed constitutes fraud.
