Vermont Physician Faces License Suspension or Revocation for Alleged “Unsafe Prescribing Practices”

John Bookwalter, MD, a thoracic surgeon, has been charged with 67 counts of unprofessional conduct, including alleged improper prescribing, according to a Reformer report.

The Vermont Board of Medical Practice filed the charges against Dr. Bookwalter in May. Those charges include allegedly improperly prescribing medications to himself and family members; allegedly failing to take and record vital signs when prescribing medications to patients; and allegedly failing to order and record lab tests when treating patients.

Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, where Dr. Bookwalter practices, is not a part of the medical board’s investigation. If the board finds Dr. Bookwalter guilty of any charges, he faces possible license suspension or revocation.
