The medical board ruled on Monday that Dr. Bookwalter prescribed medications to patients without taking vital signs or conducting lab tests on the effects of the combined medications. In addition to shutting down his obesity practice, Dr. Bookwalter has been ordered to stop offering non-operative services but can perform general surgery, according to the report.

Dr. Bookwalter plans to appeal the medical board’s order.
