Patient safety top of FDA’s new regulatory priorities

The FDA’s strategic planning to 2018 is taking a targeted focus: patient safety, according to the agency’s newly released priorities report.

Of the organization’s operational goals for the next four years, 75 percent are dedicated to patient-safety related objectives. They include:

  • Enhance oversight of FDA-regulated products
  • Improve and safeguard access to FDA-regulated products to benefit health
  • Promote better informed decisions about the use of FDA-regulate products

To accomplish these goals, the FDA plans to review the ways in which it leverages its analytics capabilities, according to a report from HealthIT Analytics.
