ASC Accreditation, Licensure & Medicare Certification

The American Association for the Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities has elected Geoffrey R. Keyes, MD, as its new board president, according to a Daily Herald report.

Capital City Surgery Center, a joint venture ambulatory surgery center between WakeMed Health & Hospitals, local physicians and Compass Surgical Partners, has received its Medicare license and a three-year accreditation from the AAAHC, according to a release.

The Joint Commission has launched Strategies for Improving Rapid Influenza Testing in Ambulatory Settings, a free continuing education course designed for physicians, physician assistants and registered nurses who provide care in ambulatory settings.

The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care has revised language in the 2012 Accreditation Handbook Including Medicare Requirements for Ambulatory Surgery Centers to better reflect survey policies effective in November.

CMS has reapproved the Health Facilities Accreditation Program's ability to deem surgery centers accredited by HFAP as having also met Medicare's Conditions for Coverage, according to an ASCA report.
