House Bill 83, titled the Montana Patient Safety Act, would create a statewide prescription drug registry to decrease the abuse of prescribed medications, particularly through “doctor shopping.” The proposed legislation, which passed through both the House and Senate, was devised by state Attorney General Steve Bullock and Rep. Tom Berry (R-Mont.).
A similar bill failed to pass more than a year ago, with criticism aimed at the cost to pharmacies for paying a fee toward the registry and reporting prescription fills. This time around, the costs for pharmacies is “more agreeable,” according to the news report.
