Joint Commission Publishes New 2011 Ambulatory Healthcare National Patient Safety Goals

The Joint Commission has published the 2011 National Patient Safety Goals, including those for ambulatory healthcare.

The NPSGs become effective Jan. 1, 2011.

The Joint Commission Board of Commissioners has also approved revisions to the NPSG on reconciling medication information (previously NPSG.08.01.01 but is now NPSG.03.06.01) which will take effect July 1, 2011. "The new, streamlined and focused version of the NPSG places a spotlight on critical risk points in the medication reconciliation process," according to The Joint Commission.
