During a healthcare facility’s certification process, a review team from The Joint Commission conducts an on-site review, during which time the review team uses tracer methodology and other review techniques to identify and document any non-compliance to The Joint Commission standards. The Joint Commission review team shares those findings at the conclusion of the on-site review.
A list of post-review activities must be completed in order to close the certification review process. Only after these activities have been done can a decision regarding a facility’s certification status be made.
Various post-review activities include the following:
• The review team will review the preliminary findings. The review team cannot predict the facility’s certification decision.
• The review team will transmit its review findings to The Joint Commission electronically within 24 hours.
• The review findings will be comprehensively reviewed by The Joint Commission’s Central Office staff.
