Dr. Usman, who serves as medical director of True Health Medical Center in Naperville, Ill., allegedly used unproven therapies, such as dietary restrictions, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and hormone modulators, to treat an autistic boy. During hyperbaric oxygen treatments, patients are enclosed in a pressurized bag filled with extra oxygen. Dr. Usman also allegedly prescribed selenium supplements, even though the boy had normal selenium levels.

In response to a 2009 investigative report by the Tribune, Dr. Usman said the treatments are based on lab results, parent reports and physical examination of patients. Neither Dr. Usman nor her attorney commented on the recent complaint filed by the IDFPR.

Dr. Usman is scheduled to come before an administrative law judge on Nov. 28, at which time a hearing will be scheduled.
