Four insights:
1. The Accreditation Association for Hospitals and Health Systems purchased HFAP from the American Osteopathic Association.
2. AAHHS and HFAP will retain CMS deeming authority for its hospital and ASC accreditation programs.
3. CMS will recognize the accreditation of facilities currently accredited under the AOA/HFAP program until the accreditation expires.
4. Going forward, all surveys conducted under the new ownership structure will be considered reaccreditation surveys for organizations previously accredited by AOA and HFAP.
