GAO Identifies Lack of Coherence in CMS Imaging Accreditation Requirements

The Government Accountability Office has found deficiencies in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid execution of accreditation requirements for advanced diagnostic imaging services, according to a mondaq report.

The Joint Commission, American College of Radiology and Intersociety Accreditation Commission are CMS approved to accredit advanced diagnostic imaging services, but the GAO found significant differences in the standards of the three organizations.

The GAO asserts that CMS should develop an oversight framework and establish minimum national standards.
