The chair was established in 1983 due to a contribution from the F.M. Kirby Foundation in honor of the hospital’s first chief of plastic surgery. In the early 2000s, efforts began to convert the fund to support an endowed chair, which was finalized in 2015.
Here are five things to know about Dr. Nahai:
1. Dr. Nahai first joined the Emory plastic surgery faculty in 1978 and later left to join Paces Plastic Surgery, a private practice. The practice joined Emory Clinic in 2014 and Dr. Nahai was reappointed to the Emory faculty.
2. Throughout his career, Dr. Nahai received numerous national and international awards and authored several books.
3. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Nahai was the director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery for six years and president of both the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
4. Dr. Nahai’s primary focus area includes face, neck and eyelid surgery. He made contributions to advancing the art and science of facial rejuvenation.
5. Dr. Nahai earned his medical degree at the University of Bristol in England and completed his residency at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. His additional training includes a fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta.
