Children's Hospital in Denver to Implement Bar Coding for Medication Safety

Children's Hospital in Denver will be implementing a bar-code system this fall to help improve medication safety among its patients, according to a Denver Post news report.
The bar-code system allows nurses and other healthcare staff members to use scanners that check prescription codes on patients' bracelets. A recent study published in Health Affairs showed one-third of patients experience an adverse event during their hospital stay, a majority of which are related to medication mishaps or infection.
