ASC accreditation leader to know: Dr. John Burke of AAAHC

John E. Burke, MD, is president and CEO of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care. He has spent 18 years with the association and now plans to retire in June of this year.

Dr. Burke oversaw the growth of the Association’s budget from $2 million to $20 million and increased the accredited organizations from 600 to 6,000. He founded the AAAHC Institute for Quality Improvement in 1999 and established the AAAHC International in 2010.

During his tenure, AAAHC was selected by the United States Coast Guard in 2005 and U.S. Air Force in 2006 as the accrediting association for their ambulatory care.

He earned an MFA from Ohio University and PhD from The Ohio State University.
