10 Surgery Centers That Recently Achieved Accreditation

Here are 10 ambulatory surgery centers that achieved accreditation between August and December.

1. Orange Coast Center for Surgical Care (Fountain Valley, Calif.)
Orange Coast Center for Surgical Care was awarded accreditation from The Joint Commission in mid-September. The ASC, which is a joint venture between Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center and physicians, is located in the new six-story, 162,500-square-foot Orange Coast Patient Care Pavilion. The surgery center performs cases in orthopedics, gynecology, GI, pain management, weight-loss and general surgery. It has four surgery suites and three GI procedure suites.

2. The Surgery Center of Wisconsin Rapids (Wis.) The Surgery Center of Wisconsin Rapids was re-accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care in September. The surgery center opened in Aug. 2006 and specializes in pain management and orthopedic procedures.

3. Western Carolina Endoscopy Center (Franklin, N.C.) Western Carolina Endoscopy Center achieved a three-year accreditation by the AAAHC in late November. Western Carolina Endoscopy Center has been accredited since 2006.

4. Unity Surgical Center (Lafayette, Ind.) United Surgical Center earned a three-year accreditation from the AAAHC, the highest level of accreditation granted by the accreditor. Tami Robinson, RN, Unity Surgical Center's director, said, in the news release, "Going through the process challenged us to find better ways to serve our patients, and it is a constant reminder that our responsibility is to our patients and the quality of care we provide."

5. Dreyer Ambulatory Surgery Center (Aurora, Ill.) Dreyer ASC was re-accredited by the AAAHC in August. The surgery center, which was opened in 1993 as a joint venture with Provena Mercy Medical Center, has been accredited by AAAHC since its establishment.

6. Tri-Cities Surgery Center (Geneva, Ill.) Tri-Cities Surgery Center achieved AAAHC accreditation from the AAAHC in December. The center earned a three-year accreditation.

7. The Regional Surgicenter (Moline, Ill.) The Regional Surgicenter achieved accreditation from the AAAHC in December. The Regional Surgicenter is adjacent to Gastroenterology Consultants and was founded in 1994 by Dr. Movva to provide ambulatory gastroenterology health care services in a safe and efficient environment. The center provides gastrointestinal adult and pediatric gastroenterology endoscopy and procedures, multi-specialty surgery services, and a Pain Management program. It is a designated Colon Cancer Screening Center.

8. Gateway Surgery Center (Clinton, Iowa). Gateway Surgery Center received AAAHC accreditation in Dec. 2010. Gateway Surgery Center is a multi-specialty ASC that utilizes physicians from Medical Associates of Clinton Iowa.

9. Summit Surgery Center (Chambersburg, Pa.)
Summit Surgery Center achieved accreditation by the AAAHC in December. The accreditation is for three years. The ambulatory surgery center has been accredited by AAAHC since opening in 2001. "This accreditation speaks volumes about the commitment that our doctors and staff have to providing top quality care to our patients," said Niki Showe, Summit Health's vice president for physician practices, in the report.

10. Montvale (N.J.) Surgery Center. Montvale Surgical Center received accreditation by the AAAHC in September. Montvale Surgical Center performs minimally invasive pain management and podiatry procedures.
