1. Dr. Bruchas will serve as the university’s second Mallinckrodt professor.
2. He has made several notable contributions to the optogenetics field. He helped develop several types of biological and engineering techniques and equipment. His work helped deepen the understanding of brain cells and how they impact behavior.
3. Dr. Bruchas also cofounded Neurolux, which is a company that can activate and record neuron activity in mice.
4. Edward Mallinckrodt Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth Elliot Mallinckrodt, created the fund in memory of their son Henry Elliot who died in 1945.
