The Omaha-based University of Nebraska Medical Center’s department of anesthesiology hosted its second family day Aug. 23 at the Davis Global Center, drawing about 100 children, spouses and family members.

The event, held in partnership with UNMC’s iEXCEL program, featured simulation stations staffed by volunteers to showcase procedures such as spinal anesthesia, central lines and ultrasounds. Families of faculty are given the opportunity to learn about anesthesiology through manikins and hands-on demonstrations, according to a Sept. 15 system news release.

“It’s cool for them to see what we do every day,” Melissa Smith, CRNA, said in the release. “Otherwise, it’s really abstract.”
