Therapix to acquire 8 shuttered Comprehensive Pain Specialists clinics — 4 details

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Therapix Healthcare Resources is acquiring eight of the pain management clinics Middle, Tenn.-based Comprehensive Pain Specialists abruptly shuttered in July, NewsChannel 5 reports.

Here’s what you should know:

1. Therapix’s acquisitions will include the clinic at TriStar Medical Center in Hendersonville, Tenn., where CPS’ most recent CEO still serves as medical director.

2. Therapix CEO John Adessa said the clinics will continue focusing on providing opioids and pain therapies, but they’ll also begin distributing CBD oil products by next year. Therapix Healthcare Resources is a subsidiary of Therapix Biosciences, which develops cannabinoid treatments.

3. Therapix began talks with CPS in 2016 and signed a letter of intent this year, according to Mr. Adessa.

4. After the CPS closures, which included clinics in several states, federal authorities began investigating former CPS CEO John Davis for alleged Medicare fraud.
